Born and raised in Ville Platte, Dr. Fontenot has strong roots in the Acadiana area. At a young age, his parents taught him about the importance of customer and patient care. With Dr. Fontenot's mother as a registered nurse and his father, an established family dentist in Ville Platte, he learned early on to take pride in caring for patients.
He graduated from LSU Alexandria - Magna Cum Laude - with a BS in Biological Sciences and later furthered his education, receiving a Doctorate of Dental Surgery from LSU Health Science Center in New Orleans. Dr. Fontenot graduated top of his class at LSU with many prestigious awards including the following: C. Edmund Kells, OKU Dental Honor Society, Academy of General Dentistry Senior Award, Academy of Operative Dentistry Senior Award, International Congress of Oral Implantologists Senior Award, American Academy of Periodontology Senior Award, and American Academy Implant Dentistry Senior Award.
After dental school, he accepted and completed a General Dentistry Residency at University of Florida College of Dentistry in Jacksonville, FL. At the University of Florida, he learned all of the disciplines in-depth with a special emphasis on full mouth reconstruction and surgery utilizing dental implants, crowns, veneers, and removable prosthetics.
Since completing his residency, Dr. Fontenot has done more than 500 hours of Continuing Dental Education in orthodontics (certified provider Six Month Smiles and Invisalign), bone grafts, dental implants (certified provider of Nobel Boicare, sedation dentistry, nitrous oxide, oral sedation) practice management, rotary endodontics, gum grafts, cosmetic dentistry, and pediatrics. He has a strong desire to learn from the best teachers across the country and use the latest technology to provide the highest quality patient care.
For the past few years, Dr. Fontenot worked at his father's dental practice in Ville Platte and multiple health centers throughout Acadiana. From this experience, he was able to increase his scope of practice to pediatrics - allowing him to treat adults and children in his current practice.
Dr. Fontenot has been married to his high-school sweetheart for almost 10 years. They have one beautiful little girl, Lilah Kate Fontenot, who is 4 years-old and a son, Liam Paul, who is 2 and a half. His wife is a teacher at a local Catholic school, St. Leo-Seton. Dr. Fontenot lives with his family in Carencro - and they love it. He enjoys exercising, movies, music, and hanging out with friends and family.
Showing early enthusiasm for biological sciences and educational pursuits, she then attended Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts for gifted students in Natchitoches, LA. Having always been a fan of traveling and new experiences, Dr. Porter decided to attend an out-of-state college in Atlanta, GA and received her BS in Biopsychology.
From a young age and with influence from her mother who is a nurse practitioner, Dr. Porter always had an interest in healthcare. During the summer of her sophomore year in college, she began shadowing and volunteering at the free health clinic Community Healthworx in Alexandria, LA. Though introduced to a variety of different healthcare fields, Dr. Porter was most drawn to the field of dentistry. Experiencing the gratitude of patients, long-term relationships between the dentist and community, and the complexity and creativity involved in the practice of dentistry, she knew this was the career she wanted to pursue.
In 2021 Dr. Porter graduated with her Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) from Texas A&M College of Dentistry in Dallas, TX. During her dental school experience she enjoyed her participation in groups such as PSI Omega Dental Fraternity, LIGHT, American Association of Public Health Dentistry, and Student National Dental Association all of which held a high emphasis on community outreach, service, and betterment. Dr. Porter often could be found participating in service events such as Sealant Day, Extraction Day at Argyle Advanced Dental Care, and regular volunteer work at Dallas homeless shelters and soup kitchens such as Dallas Life and The Stewpot.
After graduating from dental school, Dr. Porter decided to further expand her dental education with the completion of a General Practice Residency through LSU in New Orleans. In doing so she was able to gain exposure to a variety of complex cases and procedures, and completed certifications in moderate sedation and advanced cardiac life support.
Though she's enjoyed the experience of new cities and states, she is happy to return near home and is excited to provide exceptional dental care to the Acadian community. Outside of the practice of dentistry, Dr. Porter will likely be found experiencing new restaurants and enjoying the excellent Cajun cuisine and live music that Lafayette and Carencro have to offer.
